Traces are what attach the horse to the vehicle. They are buckled into the end of the breastplate and attached at the other end to the carriage tree. Note that separate traces are not required when using Zilco ZGB harness, as the ZGB breastplate features integrated traces in its design.

These traces feature stainless steel snaps for attaching to the wheeler breastplate (via a tandem spoon if desired), and anchor points for fitting the bungee tandem trace carriers.
